The one star rating is for this publication, not the story itself. The story is a 5 star short story (considering when it was written), but I bought this version because it claimed to be illustrated.
The illustrations in this story have horribly low resolution, pixelated paintings that have literally nothing to do with the story. For instance the one where they find out the son dies has a painting of children at the beach playing the surf.
The formatting is wonky also. Each new chapter starts with no visual whitespace or other division after last paragraph in
I recommend the story, but buy the Harper Collins edition (or one of the others). Avoid this one.

The Monkey Paw Oxford Bookworms ELT Diane Mowat W W Jacobs 9780194232630 Books Reviews
This book is simply great! Especially when you read it at night, it really creates a scene of horror and evil. This book is just suitable for anyone who wants to read a supernatural story and are tired of stories like Goosebumps
a monkey's paw are supposed to grant three wishes. sounds good. however, it grants them in the most evil way possible. subtle. outstanding plot. great descriptions. excellent setting
My rating would have been better, it's just a really small book. Almost like a student's book with side notes and other stuff. Really I would stay away, or buy a compilation book that includes this story. That would be more worthwhile.
A slim volume, cheaply produced, but a story that I remember having read with pleasure when young.
Wrong!
Having recently finished it as a bedtime read, I could not then go to sleep. Read it over your morning tea.
